The Panoramic Villa in Lugano-Aldesago

Location

The Brè district with its Aldesago hamlet lies at an altitude of 788 meters above sea level, and is one of the most sunny zones of Ticino.
On December 14, 1971, the Great Council passed a resolution, making the villages of Brè/Aldesago and Castagnola part of the Lugano municipality.
The view from the location is unique: it is a completely unhindered, open front view embracing the whole Lake, surrounded by mountains, up to the Monte Rosa chain with its snow-capped peaks.
The construction area is located on the southern slope of Mount Brè, about 580 m above sea level, on the west end of the Aldesago municipality and is characterized by steep slopes and a wonderful panoramic view of the lake. The surroundings are very quiet, populated by a number of prestigious villas.

The project

The Villa Luna design, on a steep slope, features a single central circular-shaped body that serves as the organizational fulcrum of the entire area.
The villa is spread over 3 floors with its living area and sleeping area on the west side and the services on the east.
Vehicular and pedestrian access to the residence is from via Bassone on the west side, directly from the basement, where there is a 4 car garage. The latter also houses the utility rooms, supporting heating and pool equipment, the cellars and a laundry room with drying rack, washing machine and dryer.
The living area and sleeping area are respectively on the ground floor and the first floor, for a total of 4. 5 rooms.
The living area is characterized by a large living room and a dining area directly overlooking the large terrace, an open kitchen, a bathroom and a wine cellar;
the sleeping area has four bedrooms, two of which are equipped with master bathroom, all with access to the semi-circular terrace.
The various levels are connected by a semi-circular staircase and a lift.
A pool with three infinity sides is located in the yard in front of the living area.

Structure and materials

The load-bearing structure of the entire building is made of reinforced concrete. The outer covering is made of a special 18 cm thick insulation layer, a 3 cm thick air gap and a 7 cm thick open face Leca Sistemi split brick white facing. The roof is insulated by a 16 cm thick thermal insulation layer. Interior walls and ceilings of the house are finished with gypsum plaster, the floors of the living room are 2 cm thick marble while the bedrooms have a wood slat flooring. On the ground floor, the terrace next to the swimming pool has a 2 cm thick porcelain coating while the terrace in front of the sleeping area is lined with teak wood slats. All doors and window frames are made of thermally insulated aluminium, with insulating double glazed glass; sun shielding is provided by AV90 motorized light metal Venetian blinds, with thermo-lacquered roll shutters, insulation-filled hood available in standard colours and aluminium side guides. The heating system uses an air-water heat pump. Quality materials and finishes are used in the entire project.
